Cedar Grill Trellis for Making a DIIY Vertical GardenPossibly the easiest and quickest way to make a vertical garden is to use regular old gardening pots and a trellis that you can get at any home improvement store or garden center. You may have all or most of the materials you need at home already, but if not, they are easy to find and inexpensive to buy.

The video below explains more, but the basic idea is that you take inexpensive gardening pots with rims and hang them on the trellis using S-hooks. Besides being low cost and simple to make, these vertical gardens can be placed virtually anywhere and are also easy to move. This way, if you don’t want to attach a vertical garden permanently to your wall, you don’t have to.

Another creative trick for growing vertically is that many ground-level plants make good companions to climbing varieties. According to Derek Fell, author of Vertical Gardening: Grow Up, Not Out, for More Vegetables and Flowers in Much Less Space, you can combine them to create a lush wall of foliage.

Trellises come in all shapes and sizes, as well as planting containers. You can get pots in all different colors, you can paint your trellis, turn it sideways, use a variety of pot sizes or even place several trellises together to create a large vertical garden. Be creative and make your structure unique.

These vertical trellis gardens can also be placed indoors and be used for growing herbs. Make sure you choose a sunny sport for your trellis so your plants will be happy.
